Mars Bar Slices

The ultimate naughty snack - it has the potential to add on a couple of kilos to your hips just by looking at it!  And oh - so delicious!  I took a whole tray in to work and I had only three tiny slices left over - so you can imagine how popular it was.

Very easy to make, but hard to lift off the pan ( unless I am doing something drastically wrong) - and you need an extra sharp knife to cut it as well.

The original recipe from taste.com.au recommends decorating with thinly sliced mars bars - but I decided it was overkill and so I did not do it.

Ingredients

  •     5 x 53g Mars bars, chopped
  •     coarsely chopped 50g butter
  •     60ml (1/4 cup) golden syrup
  •    140g (4 cups) rice bubbles
  •    200g milk chocolate, melted

   Method

Lightly grease and line the base and 2 long sides of a 20cm x 30cm (base measurement) slice pan with baking paper allowing the sides to overhang.  Though I was not able to lift the slice off the pan using the overhang - but do it anyway!  You might be able to get it to work.

Stir the chopped Mars bars, butter and golden syrup in a saucepan over low heat until the chocolate melts and the mixture is smooth.

Stir in the rice bubbles. Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan. Smooth the surface.

Spread the milk chocolate over the slice. Please melt the chocolate on a water bath. I did it directly on the flame - and it worked the first time.  The second time it got wrecked, so a water bath is the safest way to do it.

Smooth surface. Place in fridge for 2 hours or until set. Cut into pieces.  This step was the hardest of all - so I had to take a bit off the edge first to get some traction to cut the slices.
